ABUJA, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Senate President, Bukola Saraki has given assurance that the National Assembly (NASS) will revisit President Muhammadu Buhari’s letter, informing and seeking the lawmakers’ approval to take $29.9Billion external loan.
Saraki gave the assurance Friday while fielding questions from the State House Correspondents, after a closed door meeting with President Buhari in his office.
The Senate had Tuesday rejected the request when Senator Saraki read it at the plenary. Later, the Senate Leader, Ali Ndume at a press briefing, explained that the Senate threw out the letter, because it lacked the details which it indicated was attached.
Senator Ndume explained that Mr. President’s letter read, ‘’please find attached the details’’ of the external loan, but amazingly, it was nowhere to be found.
Saraki who met with President Buhari after the Jumat prayer, warned that the public should not read political meaning to the Senate initial rejection of the letter. He stressed that his colleagues’ action on Tuesday was not about the frosty relationship between the executive and legislature.
However, the NASS Chairman assured that effort to revisit the matter was underway. Saraki was accompanied by the Chairman, Senate Committee on Appropriation, Danjuma Goje.
