Mark, Ojeh In Fresh Supremacy Battle As Senatorial Re-run Poll Is Underway
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Saturday, February 20th, 2016The re-run poll in the Benue Southern Senatorial zone is underway with impressive turn out in some Local Government areas and wards of the State.
A court of Appeal sitting in Makurdi late 2015, sacked Mark, on the ground that his election did not comply substantially with the Electoral Act.
As early as 9am, accreditation of eligible voters and voting have commenced in some polling units within the Senatorial district.
The contest is strictly between the former Senate President, David Mark of the opposition PDP and Daniel Ojeh of the ruling APC.
In Otukpo Local Government area, where Mark hails from, NAN reported that a large turnout of voters. It also reported minor altercation in areas such as Edabi over location of a polling unit, yet, the matter was quickly resolved.
The incumbent Deputy Governor, of the North central State, Mr. Benson Abounu, alleged that there were attempts in Otukpo by hoodlums to snatch ballot papers.
However, the INEC Returning Officer in the area, James Echaba, assured that despite the allegation, accreditation and voting would take place in all designated polling units, in the area and within the specified period.
