2023: Power Can’t Remain In The North – Hon. Shina Peller
Featured, Latest Headlines, News Across Nigeria Thursday, September 23rd, 2021(AFRICAN EXAMINER) – Federal lawmaker, Shina Peller (APC-Oyo), has berated the Northern Elders Forum concerning comments that the region has what it takes to always produce the president of the country.
African Examiner writes that Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, NEF’s spokesman during an interview with Arise TV stated that the North has what it takes to dominate the politics of the country for decades.
Reacting, Peller asked: “How can the Northern Elders Forum tell Nigerians that power can’t shift to the south in 2023?”
The lawmaker also disagreed with NEF’s position on grounds that equity, fairness and equality must be jettisoned in the quest for power.
Peller also berated Baba-Ahmed for trying to divide the North and South with his inciting comments.
“I disagree with their position. Having the majority votes does not imply that the principle of equity and equality should be ignored.
“Even as Muslims, our religion preaches peace and for it to flourish there must be justice, equity and fairness. Power can’t remain in the north forever,” he stated.
The lawmaker stated that politicians should instead work on closing relationships to produce a unifying leadership for the country in 2023.
He said: “I expect the South and North to work together to build strong institutions towards promoting unity and bring about a desirable shift in 2023 when there won’t be an incumbent president at the polls.
“This is an opportunity to correct a generational defect not focusing on factors that divide us.”
Peller further tasked the elders to allow youths to lead the country.
“Allow the younger generation regardless of religion or ethnicity to work in synergy to build a nation of their dreams. Please let’s not heat the polity unnecessarily,” he advised.
