As the battle for the 2015 gubernatorial election in Plateau State heats up, a group under the aegis of Plateau North Political Front (PNPF) said Plateau Northern Senatorial District has the right to contest the governorship seat of the State under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The group stated this at a news conference held on Monday in Jos.
The Chairman, Evangelist Daniel Izang during the press conference said: “The Northern Senatorial Zone having analyzed our political journey in time do here resolve that we reserve the right and so retain our position to contest 2015 gubernatorial elections of the state under the banner of our great party, the PDP.
“We note and debate that while it is expedient for people from other zones to agitate for the slot, it is democratically right for such ambitions to be expressed within the confines of the law without molestation, coercion or threats to the interest of others.”
“Plateau North which comprises of six local government areas of Bassa, Jos East, Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi and Riyom; has had its fair share of political marginalization, discrimination and negligence since 3rd February, 1976, (31years, that is 1976-2007) when the state was created out of the then Benue-Plateau.
“There had never been any circumstance where the governorship position had been zoned to any senatorial district, either covertly or otherwise.
“We challenge anybody with such claims to step forward and present their case and facts if ever there was such an agreement entered in our political history.
“We make bold to also challenge any person or group of persons with any evidence as to what as to the kind of convention where such tailored agreements were made.”
