Former Vice President (VP) and Presidential candidate of the defunct Action Congress (AC) is set to formally declare his Presidential ambition under the platform of the leading opposition, the All Progressives Congress (APC).
African Examiner’s investigations indicated that the formal declaration which is bill for later this month in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, is most likely to be the first in the opposition party and not impossible to cause some infighting within the APC.
Reason for this our correspondent gathered is sequel to similar ambition being nursed by some chieftains of the party such as the veteran and former head of state, General Muhammadu Buhari (retd), Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwakawaso and his Imo State counterpart, Chief Rochas Okorochas among many others.
Atiku is a prominent politician and believed to be a master strategist. He was VP to former President Olusegun Obasanjo between 1999 and 2007. Their second tenure was characterized with serious and heated debates on alleged financial misappropriation as well as abuse of privilege of office against him.
He allegedly survived what was generally believed to be a vendetta for his refusal to support Obasanjo’s third term bid, due to his strong link and influence within and outside the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
African Examiner’s findings also indicated that Atiku may not be keen in the expected declaration, rather may be working on gaining more popularity in APC so as to negotiate some political favours to his camp.
