2015 Election: Mimiko Set To Formally Dump LP For PDP
Featured, Latest Headlines Saturday, August 23rd, 2014There is still confusion on whether Governor Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo state, South Western Nigeria, has crossed from his Labour Party (LP) to the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
As at last night, the PDP state leaders revealed to the journalists in Akure, the state capital that Mimiko has dumped his party – LP and subsequently defected to PDP.
Still, different signal are emanating from some state government officials. African Examiner learnt from the state Commissioner for Information, Kayode Akinmade who admitted that pressure the Governor has been under pressure to defect after the outcome of August 9, Osun governorship election, but was yet to make up his mind as he was still consulting with his constituencies.
This is however contrary to the position of another top state government official, Commissioner for Adult Education, Remi Olatubora, who confirmed that her boss has crossed over to the ruling PDP.
As a way to ensure a coordinated defection, our correspondent gathered that the Governor has reportedly met with the PDP state leaders and has subsequently directed all the present political appointees to reach out to their people and communicate the new development, ahead of declaration and formal defection to the ruling party.
Mimiko’s defection will put an end to months of speculations and rumour of working or otherwise, with President Goodluck Jonathan to ensure PDP re-capture the South West.
Similar lobby is ongoing in Ogun State where LP and some aggrieved APC stalwarts are considering coming and working together to ensure victory for PDP in both presidential and governorship elections next year.
