2 Somalia Journalists Suffer Grenade Attack At New Year’s Eve

An unknown assailant reportedly hurled two grenades late Wednesday at the Radio Galkacyo station’s complex, leaving the victims to suffer injuries, while the entire staffs were thrown into confusion and ran for safety.
The injured journalists have been taken to the hospitals for medical attention, as no group is yet to claim responsibility for the invasion.
However, another journalist, Iman Mohamed, in the vicinity, narrated that the grenades hit the director’s office who then was not in and the other, at the yard.
Condemnations have started trailing the attack as the country’s Secretary General, National Union of Journalists, Mohamed Ibrahim Bakistan, described it as an affront to the freedom of the media and a persistent effort to silence the Somalia’s media.
Bakistan declared: “These attacks on journalists and the media fraternity in Somalia are desperate attempts aimed at intimidating the media from carrying out its duty of being the ears and eyes of the public.”
The New Year eve attack made another, in the series of onslaughts against the media houses and journalists in Somalia, which had sent many of the practitioners to their earlier graves.
