Osun Election Will Be Credible -INEC

The Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission ( INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega has assured Nigerians that the upcoming governorship election in Osun state will be credible, free, fair and acceptable to all.
Prof Attahiru Jega gave this assurance on Wednesday while fielding questions from journalists after Interactive Session with media practitioners on their roles in election ahead 2015 general elections in Abuja.
Jega said the commission is doing everything to ensure successful conduct of governorship election in Osun state on August 9, 2014.
He noted that INEC asked controversial Osun REC, Amb Rufus Akeju to step down because of wrong perception about him which might the credibility of the election.
“We are doing everything to ensure credibility of upcoming governorship election in Osun state. Osun REC, Rufus Akeju was directed to proceed on leave not because of any wrong doing. He step aside due to wrong perception about him which might affect the conduct of the election.
We don’t want to take chances because politicians will capitalise on any mistake by the electoral body. Akeju has not been indicted of wrong doing, so he will resume after the election.”
He urged media to continue do their work professionally ahead of 2015 general elections.
Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary, National Broadcasting Commission ( NBC) has advised media houses to adhere to NBC guidelines to avoid sanction.
