EBONYI, NIGERIA (AFRICAN EXAMINER) – The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has sealed- off properties belonging to Ebonyi State Governor, David Nweze Umahi, in Abakaliki, the state capital and other parts of the state.
The sealed properties include Orsbon La Palm, a five star Hotel, situated at Mile 50, Abakaliki and petrol stations, Brass Filling stations along Ogoja and Afikpo Roads, all, in the state capital.
AFRICAN EXAMINER learnt that the development might not be unconnected to an alleged diversion of N400 million arms deal into private pockets during the 2015 Presidential election.
It would be recalled that the anti-graft agency had recently arrested younger brother to the Governor, Austin Umahi, over his involvement in the N400 million campaign funds for Ebonyi during the last general polls.
EFCC placed an “under investigation” sign on the property while business activities were still going on in the premises.
The organization, had named Umahi, alongside immediate past Governor of Enugu State, Bar. Sullivan Chime, among those who allegedly took part in the diversion of N400 million campaign funds allegedly meant for arms purchase from the office of the former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col Sambo Dasuki, who is currently standing trial.
