David Moyes accused his Manchester United players of \u201cschoolboy\u201d defending as they were dumped out of the Champions League.<\/p>\n

The Red Devils went ahead with a thunderbolt strike from Patrice Evra – but conceded a Mario Mandzukic equaliser 22 seconds after the restart. Additional goals from Thomas Muller and Arjen Robben saw United Exit the tournament meekly, with boss Moyes admitting it may be a while before United grace the Champions League again.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIf you\u2019re a schoolboy you\u2019re told not to concede right away and we conceded too quickly.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was always going to be tough and after we got the first goal we needed to give ourselves five or 10 minutes, but unfortunately they went straight up the other end and scored.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe players played ever so well and just a couple of small errors cost us. We had a great chance when it was 2-1 and the third goal came from two deflections.<\/p>\n

\u201cI never thought we were out of the game. We\u2019ve not got Champions League football, but I believe it\u2019s not far away.<\/p>\n

\u201cHopefully it will be one year. Maybe we will have to rebuild, but the focus is on making sure we get back into this competition.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy job is to get on and do the job. I\u2019ve found everyone at the club very good.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moyes admitted that Wayne Rooney, who played having had a pain-killing injection to overcome a toe injury, was not 100 per cent fit.\u201cI was concerned that Wayne had not trained all week and had taken an injection, itlooked like it was a struggle striking the ball on a couple of occasions. But he is so vital a player to us.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s so important, especially with Robin van Persie out just now. He had a couple of opportunities but couldn\u2019t quite take them.\u201d<\/p>\n

Moyes suggested United’s rebuilding was already under way when he said: “The ones who, quietly, someone might have had a word in their ear, have all been keen to come because they know it is a short thing, not a long thing and are all very keen to join such a great club.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
