Manchester United has awarded Wayne Rooney\u00a0the most expensive long-term contract in the club’s history after the striker\u00a0agreed a new five-and-a-half-year contract worth up to \u00a3300,000 a week.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old England international has extend his current contract by four years, tying him to the club until June 2019.<\/p>\n

His old deal, which would have expired next year, paid up to \u00a3250,000 a week.<\/p>\n

Speaking at a United news conference on Friday, manager David Moyes said: “As soon as we have the information to give you, we will give you it.<\/p>\n

“Everyone knows how important a player he is. He is a terrific football player and if we can get it done it will be great.”<\/p>\n

Rooney had looked set to leave Old Trafford last summer after former United manager Alex Ferguson claimed ha had asked for a transfer-something the player denied.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the England forward has expressed confident in the team’s remaining Premier League matches saying, good times are ahead for the reigning champions after signing the new contract, despite a somewhat stuttering start to life under new manager David Moyes.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old said he was thrilled to sign the.<\/p>\n

He told his own website: “Yes I’m very happy to have signed a new long-term contract with Manchester United.<\/p>\n

“This is one of the biggest clubs in the world and to know that I will be playing here for the majority of my career is something that I’m looking forward to.<\/p>\n

“I’m happy that everything is now finalised and I can carry on concentrating on my football.”<\/span><\/p>\n

The deal took a while to negotiate and Rooney joked: “If you believe everything you read in the papers that’s because I have been demanding to be captain and want an input into the club’s transfer policy, which is totally laughable and of course untrue.<\/p>\n

“The talks have taken a while but that’s not unusual. It’s been a difficult time for the club and there has been a lot going on but the talks were positive from the start.<\/p>\n

“Most importantly, the fans have always supported me since I joined the club, through the good times and the bad times. They continued this support whilst the talks have been going on and I can’t thank them enough.”Wayne Rooney<\/p>\n
