Schalke’s Julian Draxler has accused the German club of blocking his move to Arsenal at the last minute during the January transfer market.<\/p>\n
The midfielder explained that Schalke were the ones to end all hopes of the switch taking place, despite Arsenal\u00a0doing everything they could to bring him to the Emirates.<\/p>\n
The fact is, [Schalke general manager, Horst Heldt\u00a0had offers for me this winter,\u201d Draxler explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m happy about that on the other hand, it shows the respect I enjoy at this club, even if \u00a0Heldt refuses without me being asked.\u201d<\/p>\n
.Heldt also confirmed the story. He said\u00a0\u201cWe told him [about the offers], but also that we wouldn’t let him go”<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was no replacement on the market and Julian didn’t really want to leave. But he would have brought us a lot of money.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe moment will come. We can’t avoid this,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe’s an outstanding player in Europe – one day he’ll leave us.\u201d<\/p>\n
Heldt\u2019s quotes perhaps suggest that the month-long talks with Arsenal\u00a0and another club he would not name were ultimately scuppered by Schalke\u2019s failure to capture a direct replacement for Draxler.<\/p>\n
Many Gunners fans were left disappointed and confused when their side apparently failed to get an estimated \u00a330million move for Draxler, 20, over the line in the January transfer window.<\/p>\n
