As the 2013\/2014 Nigerian soccer season begins February, the league
\nManagement Company (LMC) has directed clubs in the nation’s Professional
\nFootball League (NPFL) to engage the services of certified medical
\npractitioners before the kick- off date or risk being \u00a0registered.<\/p>\n
LMC Chairman,\u00a0Nduka Irabor\u00a0gave the directive Friday
\nat the Pre-Season Medical Seminar in\u00a0Abuja.<\/p>\n
According to Irabor, LMC would not register any club that fail to hire the services of\u00a0certified medical doctor,\u00a0 physiotherapist, or a nurse in the team.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf it is only four clubs that meet the medical requirements before the
\ncommencement of the league, only the four clubs will participate.”<\/p>\n
\u201cThere are no rules which said league clubs must be up to 20
\nbefore the league can commence,\u2019\u2019 he stated.<\/p>\n
The LMC boss, also enjoined the medical officers to ensure there was a
\nfitness test for all the players in the clubs to ensure they were
\nmedically fit for the season.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the event,NFA medical committee chairman, Abdulkadir Mu\u2019azu explained the importance of\u00a0the seminar.<\/p>\n
He said the seminar was put\u00a0 together with a view to bringing
\ntogether all medical practitioners taking care of players in the league.<\/p>\n
\u201cThese are the very important aspect of preventing injury, issues that
\nhave to do with drugs and those other aspects that can help to enhance
\nperformance of players.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause, without the players being healthy and fit, they cannot play
\nfootball.<\/p>\n
Mu\u2019azu, however, challenged the league clubs on ensuring that the
\nmedical requirements by the LMC were met for the sake of the players\u2019
