Serena Sets New Record, Withdraws From Women’s Double Due To Heat
- Updated: January 17, 2014

Five time Australian Open champion Serena Williams has set another record with match win No. 61 as she advanced to the fourth round after beating Daniela Hantuchova 6-3, 6-3.
Williams did not face any danger in her win over the No. 31 seeded Hantuchova.
It took the American, who has conceded just 12 games in three straight sets wins this week only 1 hour, 20 minutes to see off her opponent.
William equaled Margaret Court’s Australian Open mark of 60 match wins withe her second round victory, and beat that in third round when she also matched Lindsay Davenport’s of 69 main-draws matches in the Open era.
However, Williams later withdrew from the doubles to avoid any extra exposure to the blazing sun in Melbourne. The temperature hit 39 Celsius during her game Friday and topped 42 C by noon.
The 32 years old has now won 24 matches dating back to August, and she seems to be getting better with age.
