- Updated: January 14, 2014

Former Champions Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal are through to the second round of this year’s Australian Open following victories over James Duckworth and Bernard Tommic respectively.
Federer swept Duckworth aside in straight set (6-4, 6-4, 6-2), while world number one, Nadal’s tricky test against Tommic ended when Tommic retired a set down (6-4).
Playing on a day that saw temperature exceed 40C, Wimbledon champion Andy Murray also made the ideal start to his campaign with one of the quickest victories at the tournament so far to book a second round slot after beating Japan’s Go Soeda (6-1, 6-1, 6-3) in just 87 minutes.
Elsewhere, Tsonga of France beat Italian Volandri (7-5, 6-3,6-3), while world number 5 Radwanska defeated Putintseva of Kazerstan (6-0, 5-7, 6-2).
