United Set To Get Result Against City In Manchester Derby
- Updated: March 23, 2014
David Moyes says Manchester United are heading into Tuesday’s derby with Manchester City at Old Trafford full of confidence after back-to-back wins.
United, out of the title race after a poor domestic season, followed up their Champions League victory over Olympiakos with a 2-0 win at West Ham.City, who will move three points behind leaders Chelsea with a win, beat United 4-1 at the Etihad Stadium in September.
United trail neighbours City, who are third in the Premier League table, by 12 points, with Moyes’s side having played two games more.
The derby is United’s first league game back at Old Trafford since they were beaten 3-0 by Liverpool on 16 March.
But United bounced back from that setback to advance to the Champions League quarter-finals after overturning a 2-0 first leg deficit against Greek champions Olympiakos before winning comfortably at West Ham.
Wayne Rooney scored both goals at Upton Park, his first a spectacular lob from just inside the Hammers’ half.
“For Wayne to notice the goalkeeper was out of his box when the ball was played up to him, it was just a great piece of skill, great ability and the execution was fantastic,” added Moyes.
Looking ahead to the derby with City, Rooney added: “It’s an exciting game and hopefully we’ll get the result.”
