Super Eagles Coach Will Not Jeopardise Team Unity, says ”No New Boys”
- Updated: April 3, 2014

Super Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has reemphasized his trust in the squad he has building in the past two years, saying that he will not include new players in his plans as he Nigeria prepare for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.
Keshi said he would not destroy an established team to satisfy the yearning of some people.
“We have been trying to build a team since the past two years when I came on board, so I don’t see any reason why we have to tear the team apart by looking for newer faces to make some people satisfied,” Keshi said.
The former Super Eagles captain however noted that there would not be automatic shirt for members of the 2013 African Nations Cup winning team, as he is only going to select the best legs from the pool of players currently available in the team.
“We have a pool of players already on ground, and all that we need to do is to continue building on that, but it doesn’t mean that if you were in the team when we won Nations Cup that you must be in the team to the World Cup.
“If I see anybody better than you, I will take him. Sorry it is not for me, it is for the country and for Africa because we are going there to defend Africa, to defend Nigeria and to defend our pride. So there are a lot of things at stake and I will not negotiate for that,” he added.
“To be honest with you, Nigeria will do her best [at the World Cup] but I am not sure we will get to where a lot of people think we will get to in the tournament”. Akanni said.
Chelsea’s Mikel Obi and Victor Moses, who is currently on loan at Liverpool are two prominent members of the Super Eagles that Nigeria will look up to at this year’s World Cup, but neither of them is playing regularly at the moment.
Obi was an unused sub during Chelsea’s 1-3 loss to PSG when the two sides met in the first leg of their European Champions League quarter-final encounter in Paris Wednesday, while Moses came on as a sub with less than ten minutes to go in Liverpool’s victory against Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday.
