”I’m Not Here Because of Money” Ferdinand Tells QPR Fans

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has signed a 3.5m year-deal at QPR.

Ferdinand, 35, was released by the Red Devils in July after 12 years at Old Trafford.

In his first interview as a QPR player Ferdinand expressed his joy at finally signing a deal with the Hoops, and insisted that he hadn’t joined the west-London side for a lucrative pay-day.

He said: “I used to sit in the Loft – my Dad used to bring me here as a young boy. QPR was the first professional club to ever sign me.

“There are great memories for me here – for my family.

“Anton had nothing but good things to say about QPR and I watched Les here as a boy, with the likes of Ray Wilkins, Clive Wilson, David Bardsley and Alan McDonald.”

“I had a lot of offers from all over the world – some in places with a better climate than here. But the draw for me was to play in the Premier League and back here where it all started.

“I still feel I’ve got something to offer and I’m excited about helping this club cement its place in the Premier League”

“It’s not about money – I had loads of more lucrative offers available to me.

Ferdinand’s move to Loftus Road sees him link up with former boss Harry Redknapp, who managed the ex-England international during his at West Ham.
