Nigeria’s Flamingoes Hit World Cup Q/Finals
- Updated: March 20, 2014
Nigeria reached the quarterfinal of the U17 Women’s World Cup after they came from behind to beat Colombia 2-1 in a group game early Thursday morning.
Nigeria will early Monday morning battle Mexico, who remain top of Group D after they pounded China 4-0, to determine the overall group winner.
Colombia stunned the Flamingoes with a third minute goal courtesy of a looped header by Angie Rodriguez.
Nigeria drew level midway through the first half through Joy Bokiri, whose curled free kick from the edge of the box sailed into the net.
Before the hour, Uchenna Kanu produced the winner for Nigeria with a header from a corner.
Nigeria then had chances to increase their lead but were either denied by the post or the Colombia goalkeeper.
