Manchester United Owner Malcolm Glazer Dies At 86
- Updated: May 29, 2014

Manchester United were in mourning last night following the death of owner Malcolm Glazer.
The American billionaire died in America aged 86 from a suspected stroke following a long spell of poor health.
Glazer bought United in May 2005 in a deal worth around £900m and became a highly controversial figure at Old Trafford.
He angered supporters with the massive debts his take-over left the club in, despite the fact United continued to win trophies.
His death was confirmed by NFL franchise the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, which Glazer also owned as part of his worldwide business interests.
A United spokesman said last night: “The thoughts of everyone at Manchester United are with the family tonight.”
A statement on the Buccaneers website said: “The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are saddened to announce the passing of owner/president Malcolm Glazer earlier this morning.”
It is understood Glazer’s death will have no effect on the ownership or running of United in the future.
Despite leading the take-over of the former champions, Glazer never took a significant role at the club, with the 90 per cent shareholding being owned by his six children.
Glazer senior has left the running of United to his sons Joel, Avi and Bryan since suffering a stroke in April 2006.
He became a recluse at one of his luxury homes in Palm Beach after the stroke left him with impaired speech and limited mobility in his right arm and leg.
The three Glazer brothers are all on the United board, with the latter two co-chairmen of the club.
Since the Glazers took charge of United the giants have gone on to win five Premier League titles and one Champions League crown.
