Madrid Through To Copa Del Rey Semi-Final
- Updated: January 28, 2014

Jese Rodriguez’s early goal sealed a 2-0 aggregate win over Espanyol as Real Madrid edged into the Copa Del Rey semi-finals.
The result means Los Blancos have kept eight consecutive clean sheets, a new club record, as they prepare to meet Atletico Madrid or Athletic Bilbao in the competition’s last eight.
Madrid took just seven minutes to open the scoring in the second leg, when Jese controlled Xabi Alonso’s excellent long pass from deep on the chest, beating Kiko Casillag at the near post with a tidy finish.
Christiano Ronaldo was presented with a glorious chance to double his side’s lead but saw his one-on-one shot saved by the legs of Casilla, who made up for his questionable goalkeeping on Jese’s goal.
Javier Aguirre introduced striker Jhon Cordoba in an attempt to give his side more presence in attack but their efforts were undermined by the dismissal of Victor Sanchez, who was shown a second yellow late in the second half.
