Southampton has halted Arsenal’s run of five consecutive Premier League victories after league leaders managed to hang on with ten men to secure a 1-1 draw Tuesday.
Jose Fonte put the Saints ahead after they dominated the opening half but two goals in three minutes just after the break looked to put Arsenal on their way.
Olivier Giroud’s equaliser for the Gunners, two minutes into the second half was quickly followed by Santi Cazorla, who doubled the visitors goals in the 51st minute.
The hosts hit straight back with a goal of their own two minutes later through Adam Lalana’s left footed shot from the center of the box.
Both sides had chances to win the match as Southampton finished the stronger following Flamini’s bad challenge on Morgan Schneiderlin.
Robin Van Persie and Ashley Young scored as Manchester United beat Cardif City 2-0 as Spanish midfielder Juan Mata made his debut for the champions at Old Trafford.
RVP headed home after David Marshall had saved his first effort, moments after Antonio Valencia had hit the crossbar, just six minutes into the game.
Ashley Young sealed the victory in the second half after cutting in from the left and firing home from 22 yards.
