Ghana Joins Nigeria To U-20 Female World Cup In Canada

Nigeria and Ghana will represent Africa at the 2014 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup scheduled from 5-24 August in Canada.

The Falconets were the first to qualify after beating South Africa by a lone goal in Johannesburg.

Striker Adeboyejo Yetunde scored the only goal of the match in the first half to power Falconets to a double and book their ticket for the global championship courtesy a 7-0 aggregate win.

With a 6-0 win from the first leg, the Falconets confirmed their superiority over the Basetsana by silencing them at their backyard to maintain their impressive record of being the only African team to have qualified for every edition of the global youth women’s championship since its inception in 2002.

In Accra, the Ghanians booked their place after beating Equatorial Guinea 4-3 on penalties also on Sunday.

The encounter ended 1-0 in favour of the Black Princesses in normal time but Grace Adams’ first half strike was only enough to keep the tie 1-1 on aggregate.
