England Captain Shows Concern over Team Performance
- Updated: September 5, 2014

New England captain Wayne Rooney has admitted the Three Lions will not win in Switzerland on Monday night unless they improve dramatically.
Rooney said the team needs to play better than they did in Wednesday’s 1-0 friendly win over Norway, otherwise they will struggle in their tough Group E opener in Basel.
The Manchester United captain, who scored the only goal at Wembley from the penalty spot, said: “We know we have to be better against the Swiss if we are going to get the victory there.
“There are four days before Switzerland and hopefully we can come back from there with a positive result.
“It was important to get the victory against Norway, but now we have to move on from here. We will work hard now and be ready, hopefully we can come back with a victory.”
Hosts Switzerland are ranked ninth in the world by FIFA and got to the last 16 of this summer’s World Cup before losing 1-0 to eventual finalists Argentina in extra time.
England are down to 20th in the table after being eliminated even before they played their final group game.
