City Manager Happy over Win against Newcastle Ahead of Bigger Task to Come
- Updated: August 17, 2014

Manuel Pellegrini was left pleased as Manchester City opened their title defence with an important win against a resolute Newcastle w with goals from David Silva and Sergio Aguero on Sunday.
With bigger tests to come, namely Liverpool next weekend, the City boss was just happy to get away with the three points.
“It was very important for us to start with a win,” he said. “We talked to the squad about the ‘two h’s’ – we were hungry and humble.
“We need both if want to continue winning titles and improve on what we did last season. We didn’t have any clean sheets in pre-season but we were very solid in this game.”
Opposite number Alan Pardew was happy with what he saw from his new look troops, but lamented one or two missed chances.
“I feel a little bit disappointed we have lost and the score line is slightly flattering to them,” he said. “I felt if we had got an equaliser we could have gone on to win because we looked fitter and stronger.
“Our fans are good judges and I think they’ve seen enough to believe we’re going to give it a real good go this season.”
