Burundi top group D in a dramatic fashion
- Updated: January 18, 2014

A last minute goal by Selemani Ndikumana was all Burundi needed to go to the top of group D after defeating Mauritania 3-2 at the 0n-going African Nations Championship in South Africa saturday.
Mauritania scored an early goal in the encounter described by many as one of the most exciting game of the tournament through Ely Vheikh Voulany’s strike inside the first two minutes.
It didn’t take much time for Voulany’s goal to be cancelled as Burundi’s Fiston Razaq Abdul equalized five minutes after the opener before Christophe Nduwarugira gave them the lead in the 61st minute. The lead, like Mauritania’s opener did not take long as Mohamed Taghiyoullah equalised for Mauritania in the 7oth minute.
Ndikumana however put a dramatic end to the encounter, scoring the third goal that sends his country to the top of their group with only 5 seconds before the final whistle.
