Valencia Wants More Games As Giggs Plans Retirement
- Updated: April 13, 2014
Antonio Valencia has hit out at his lack of game time under David Moyes.
The Manchester United winger has started 18 league matches this season, but feels he could have made a bigger impact on their desperately disappointing campaign if the boss had shown more faith in him.
Valencia said of this season with the Reds: “I would like to have more minutes. I would like to have a more important role here. In fact, I would have liked to have more importance inside the team.
“But I have not been given the chance. I hope next season will be better for me as well as for Man United.”
Meanwhile, Ryan Giggs has paved the way for his retirement last by admitting he has waved goodbye to the Champions League after 21 years.
The 40-year-old Old Trafford legend is ready to call it a day, according to reports.
After 141 Champions League games – second only to Real Madrid’s Raul in the all-time appearance list – Giggs virtually admitted his race is run with United and European football.
He said: “Will you see me in the Champions League again? No, probably not. It’s weird to think that, but I’ve no complaints.
“I’ve won the competition twice and played in four finals. Champions League nights have always been special nights for me.
“It’s a special competition. You’re up against the best.
“You get some group games that can be a little easier but once you come through to the latter stages you’re up against the big teams – and that’s when you really test yourself and when you’re really up for it.’’
Giggs still believes United can rescue their season. He said: “As long as it’s still possible to get a Champions League spot, we have to go for it.’’
