Following Sunday’s tragic Dana Air crash in Lagos suburb,
Nigeria’s senate has called on the Federal to ground all the
Dana aircrafts pending the outcome of the investigation into the
crash which killed all 153 passengers onboard.
The senate also called on the Federal government to sack the
Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA
Dr Harold Demuren over the Dana crash in Lagos and a cargo
plane flying from Nigeria and crashed in Accra, Ghana earlier
on Saturday.
NCAA regulates the activities of all airlines operating in the
country.
In a motion sponsored by the senate chairman on Aviation,
Sen. Hope Uzodinma, all the senators unanimously
condemned the aviation regulatory agencies for negligent and
ineptitude in supervising the airlines.
They also agreed that relieving Dr. Demuren of his job would
allow free flow of information during investigations into the two
air mishaps which happened back to back.
The senators also demanded that the ministry of aviation
should immediately release reports of all air crashes even as it
resolved that all airlines operating in the country would be
investigated.
Meanwhile, the Federal government has withdrawn Dana’s Air
Operators’ Certificate (AOC) and grounded all its aircrafts citing
safety reasons.
Dana aircraft MD 83 went down on Sunday in outskirt of Lagos
killing 153 people on board plus unknown number of causalities
on the ground.
The cause of the crash is being investigated by Nigerian
aviation experts and United States investigators using the
plane’s black box and in flight data recorder.
