Disturbed by the  bombings that claimed the lives of a clergy, two professors
and several others last weekend, Nigeria’s Vice President Namadi Sambo on
Monday summoned the acting Inspector General of Police, M.D. Abubakar to an
emergency meeting at the State House, Abuja.

This is even as President Goodluck Jonathan, from Chad where he is attending
a regional meeting, advised Nigerians and foreigners living in the country not to
panic over the spate of bombings that rocked two major Nigerian cities on
Sunday.

Sambo was said to have expressed disgust at the ease with which perpetrators
of the dastardly act hit their targets without the police and other security
agencies nipping the terrorist activities in the bud.

Although details of the separate meetings were still hazy as at press time, a
source said the VP specifically summoned the Inspector General of Police over
Sunday’s attack at Bayero University, Kano and the Jalingo bombings.

The IG met with the Vice President alongside minister of Police Affairs Navy
Capt. Caleb Olubolade.

African Examiner also gathered that the National Security Adviser (NSA)
General Andrew Oweye Azazi (rtd) was summoned to the state house by the
Vice President over his comment at the Asaba’s south-south summit where he
said undemocratic actions of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) gave
birth to the violent Boko Haram group.

The NSA rhetorically said: “How come the extent of violence did not increase in
Nigeria until the public declaration of the people that were going to contest
election by the PDP?

“And I would also like to say this, though the PDP people will not agree with me,
they would like to attack me, but I hope they do it in private

“PDP got it wrong from the beginning by saying Mr A can go and Mr B cannot
go, and these decisions were made without looking at the constitution.

“Is it possible that somebody was thinking that only Mr. A could win and that if
he could not win, there would be problems in this society?”

Azazi's comment has continued to attract condemnation among who’s who in
the PDP even President Jonathan himself disagreed with the NSA.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has said his administration is firmly in
control of the Boko Haram menace even as he condemned both attacks in Kano
and Jalingo.

“Success in the war against terrorism will be more speedily achieved with
greater support and assistance from affected communities” the president noted.

He called on all patriotic Nigerians to promptly report all suspicious persons to
national security agencies.
