If I was not born a Christian, l would have instantly considered differently the
unfortunate statement credited to the President of Christian Association of
Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Oritsejafor, concerning his call for the arrest and
prosecution of the CPC presidential candidate, Muhammad Buhari; for the
violence perpetrated by hoodlums who were disappointed at the April 16
Presidential election result as released by INEC? It did not occur to Pastor
Oritsejafor that such unguarded utterance could set the nation aflame, on
religious divide.

Anyone who gives religious coloration to the violence that took place in some
northern states should have his or her brain re-examined. A spontaneous reaction
that even torched the palaces of custodians of Islamic tenets (in Nigeria) and
other of Muslims, including the Vice President Sambo’s; a reaction that torched
some INEC offices, yet persons like Oritsejafor has passed the incident in
religious coloration. Why didn’t the rioters torch the house of the Kaduna
Governor, a Christian? Was it not until the security agents started firing and
killing protesters that some hoodlums went into burning of churches and
mosques inclusive? The CAN President must apologize to Nigerians for uttering
inciting statements capable of destabilizing Nigeria and our democracy. That he
is a south-southerner (as me) on the side of our brother Jonathan’s win should
not make Oritsejafor lose decorum.

I hereby appeal to all reasonable Christians and Muslims to ignore the utterance
of Pastor Orisejafor as doing otherwise would create unnecessary frictions
between their divides. Where were the likes of Oritsejafor and one Bishop Damina
of a church in Uyo when INEC deprived Christians their Easter holidays by fixing
the governorship and houses of assembly elections on Easter Tuesday; this
denied Christians that travelled to their native towns (different from where they
live) the opportunity of voting for their candidates? So CAN, under Oritsejafor,
could not see reason to ask the INEC to shift the election to 28th April just as
they did for Bauchi and Kaduna? What has been the reasonable contribution of
the CAN under Oritsejafor in the religious crisis that continues unabated in
Plateau and Bauchi States? All the members of the CAN executive should bury
their heads in shame.

comments = I dont think Chief Barnabas Osuanlele is a Christian. How can
somebody say the riots in some parts of the Northern states were a
reaction to the outcome of the presidential election. The riots started on
Monday during the day while the results of the election was announced
around 8pm the same day. How did the 'hoodlums' know the results of the
election before they were anounced. Why do we keep deceiving ourselves in
the name of unity.

The writer of the letter above is not sincere. While I will never support
violence in any form, this fellow is not a small boy, so he should not tell us
that all what was happening in the north is having religious connotations.
Why are the northerners not killing themselves once there is a slight
provocation, why are they not setting mosque ablaze? The truth has to be
told, we all know the truth, if the government fail to bring to book the
perpetrators, you can be sure that one day, the recipients of the violence
from the northerners will learn to defend themselves even within the northern
domain.

Well, the writer above truly is from the far north hiding his real identity to
orchestrate their heinous and mindless agenda. A very primitive and
pre-date perception of facts. Who among you and the PFN president is
asking for fracas in this matter? What is wrong with some one saying the
master minder of a crime against humanity be brought to justice? Is this
kind of perverse and low minded approach that make the rest of Nigerians
pessimistic concern a valid assessments. It is true we all have the right to
speak and air out our views, but we should also note that our right to speak
end where other right to speak start. You have the right to speak any thing,
but do not have the right to distort justice through your right to speak any
thing. We don't need low minds like you any more in Nigeria. People should
be held responsible for their words and actions no matter how high they are
placed socially.
