The Federal Government has urged members of the Association of
Nigerian Students (NANS) to ensure that its members are sensitised and
mobilized to get more involved in efforts geared towards repositioning the
country for greatness.

The government urged the student to take advantage of the youth-friendly
disposition of President Goodluck Jonathan and avail themselves of the
numerous programmes for youth development.

Minster of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Caleb Olubolade (rtd) who gave the
charge while receiving members of the National Association of Nigerian
Students (NANS) led by its President, Comrade Dauda Mohammed in his
office, however lamented that some youths rather than working for the
benefits of a better tomorrow, have made themselves available as ready
tools in the hands of people to whom the survival and prosperity of Nigeria
makes no meaning.

Olubolade noted that it is commendable that the Nigerian student body
has taken the initiative to get involved in the transformation agenda of the
federal government.

He informed the delegation of the federal government's plan to massively
increase the population of the Nigeria Police Force, having realized that
the current number was grossly inadequate for proper policing of the
nation.

The Minister assured the association of the preparedness of the Ministry
of Police Affairs to partner with it as, according to him, a well enlightened
and mobilized youth is an antidote to terrorism and other forms of violent
activities in the country.

Earlier the President of the National Association of Nigerian Students,
Comrade Dauda Mohammed said the efforts of the Minister at
repositioning the Nigeria Police Force was greatly commendable. The
efforts, according to him, are evidenced by the proactive steps taken
particularly in the areas of training and retraining of officers as well as the
provision of logistic support to the Force in order to combat crime frontally.

Mohammed  also told the Minister that the generality of Nigerian students
under the aegis of his Association were saddened by the recent turn of
events in some parts of the country and were in the Ministry to
commiserate with him on the various security challenges that have
confronted the nation in the last couple of months especially as it
concerned the Nigerian Police Force where a good number of police
stations have come under very serious attacks leading to loss of lives and
property.

He added  it's members have resolved that major stakeholders in the
future of Nigeria, they cannot stay and watch it destroyed by some
misguided members of the society and have therefore come together to
join the government to exterminate the scourge of terrorism.
