The commercial city of Kano on Monday came under siege by gunmen who
attacked targets in the Mandawari area of the ancient city.
Although the casualty rate is still hazy, unconfirmed reports indicate that
several policemen might have been either wounded or killed in the attacks
and subsequent stampede.
The attackers were said to have arrived the area at about 8 am on motor
bikes before firing gun shots at security men on duty at the Mandawari
station located within the precinct of the Emir of Kano‘s palace.
Spokesman of the Kano State Police Command, Alhaji Magaji Musa Maija
who confirmed the incident however declined details as well as the casualty
rate.
Meanwhile security operatives under the aegis of the Joint Task Force, JTF,
constituted in the wake of the earlier tragic serial blasts and shootings that
rocked the town have codoned the troubled area
Kano had lately been a centre of epic encounter between security personnel
and Boko Haram sect members who had inflicted pains and fear on the
residents.
