Chidi Ajaegbu Emerges 50th ICAN President

Mr. Chidi Onyeukwu Ajaegbu (FCA) has emerged as the 50th President of Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN).

Ajaegbu before his election at special council meeting of the leading accounting regulatory body in Nigeria was the Vice President of the Institute.

He will take the oath of office on Tuesday at the Council Chamber of the Institute located Plot 16 Idown Taylor street, Victoria Island, Lagos.

He will rule till May ending next year before the election of new president in line with the Institute succession policy.

The new president will take over from 49th President of ICAN, Alhaji Kabir Alkali Mohammed FCA who hails from Argungu, Kebbi state.

Ajaegbu is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) and an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbroker (CIS).

He was born in Kano on 9th September 1964. He attended Mbutu Umuojima Primary School, Osisioma Ngwa in Abia State between 1970 and 1976 for his First School Leaving Certificate, where he passed out with a Credit Pass in 1976.

He proceeded to Government College, Lagos between 1977 and 1982 for his West African School Certificate, where he came out with a first division aggregate in 1982 and later did his GCE A’ Levels in 1984.

The 50th ICAN President holds a Masters degree in Banking and Finance from the University of Lagos. He trained and qualified as a Chartered Accountant in Binder Balogun & Co. (BDO) between 1984 and 1988 and rose from Audit trainee to Principal Analyst between 1984 and 1992.

Ajaegbu  is the founder and pioneer Chief Executive Officer of Mutual Alliance (A Dealing Member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange) from 1997 – 2008; Founder and CEO of Heritage Capital Markets Ltd (A Dealing Member of the Nigerian Stock Exchange) from 2008 to date; and AGM to Executive Director designate of BCIC Investment Ltd/LTC Advertising (CBN Licensed Finance House) from 1992 to 1997.

He has served the Institute in various capacities as Member, Deputy Chairman and Chairman of various committees. He has been a member of National Governing Council since 2001.

He served as a member of National Governing Council of the Nigerian Stock Exchange between 2005 and 2008. During this period he served in Quotations, F & GPC committees among other committees of the Exchange.
