Dear Editor,

Nigerians celebrated Dimeji Bankole; Nigerians celebrated Ibori; Nigerians
celebrated run-away former Governors Daniel of Ogun, Akala of Oyo and
Ohakim of Imo. Nigerians are still celebrating returnee Senate President and
his Deputy. Nigerians are celebrating the do-or-die returnee Governors who
we know rigged elections and are facing (incurrptible?) judges of Tribunals
and Courts. Nigerians celebrated and still celebrate monumental corruption
that has remained kankerworm in our national growth; Nigerians are
celebrating the anti-graft (or pro-graft?) agencies.

Was it not the same Dimeji Bankole that Maleye group reportedly exposed
but Nigerians and our anti-graft agencies remained onlookers and still
supporting and condoning corruption in high places? The EFCC, the ICPC,
the SSS were all there and never considered any proactive measures that
were available to make it impossible for former governors (of Imo, Oyo and
Ogun) from running away for what they termed “deserved holidays”.
Statement like this should be told to the marines.

Why is the EFCC singling out Dimeji Bankole in the legislative arm of
governments? What happens to the old and fresh calls to investigate past
Speakers of some former State Houses of Assembly like those of Akwa Ibom
State and Imo State, to mention but few, impeached variously under
established frauds?

The EFCC boss, Barrister Farida Waziri, two years ago announced that she
submitted to the National Assembly a Bill aimed at removing the Immunity
Clause under which the President, Vice President, State Governors and their
Deputies are covered to loot with impunity. If Farida was or is still sincere
about her submission, did she follow it up? She was busy complaining that
the judiciary has been delaying prosecutions by EFCC; to wit she advocated
a separate court for EFCC cases.

But one wonders why the President would still allow someone who was an
attorney to Ibori and some sitting governors in the person of Farida Waziri to
remain in the office after all that has been revealed about how Ibori escaped.
There is no way Farida’s EFCC and the Police would prove that they did not
aid that escape.

Nigeria stinks to far-away places. The USA President Barack Obama recently
sounded it very loud and clear to President Jonathan when both met in the
White House that the latter must tackle corruption in Nigeria.
