The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has recorded no fewer
than 24 convictions of persons for electoral offences linked with the April 2011
general elections.

This assertion is to correct the notion, as reflected in recent media reports, that
the Commission has abandoned the prosecution of electoral offenders.

The convictions were recorded out of 321 cases filed in courts across the
country, at the last count. Some other cases are at different stages of
prosecution.

A rejoinder detailing the Commission’s position on the prosecutions follows
below. Also find the profiles and statistics of the prosecutions attached.
